  •  There Would Be Very Few New Criminals (11+ / 0-)

They are the same ones that were released six months or a year ago, hell a lot of them could be worked back into their old cells.

An unexpected byproduct of my recent misadventure was an upclose and personal look at a slice of the criminal culture in this country (and believe me, there IS a thriving culture). MAYBE 10% of my former "colleagues" were one-timers like myself, easily half of everybody I interacted with in Federal prison had done time AT LEAST twice before, at the State or Federal level, and got "popped" for a very small percentage of their professional activities, and were quite willing to discuss it with somebody else wearing the same clothes.

The MAIN topic of conversation was either criminal shit they had done before this "bit" or the criminal shit they were going to do when they got out.

When I was released I rode a bus from Beckley, West Virginia to Memphis, six guys came out of the Medium Security facility co-located with the Camp where I was the same morning, one of them went to Walgreens before the bus came and bought a cellphone and was setting up a 2-kilo coke deal on the bus on the way home.

Within that culture prison time is not a horrible, life-altering catastrophe, it's an accepted cost of doing business. They don't even stop doing criminal shit while locked up, the target audience just changes.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
