  •  I'm in upstate NY, and it's not (15+ / 0-)

snowing right now.  We got about 8 inches total and if the winds don't kick in, we're in luck.

If we got 8 inches of snow last week I'd be complaining.  This week I'm delighted.

Heh. That's the Big News every October or November across the country, and everybody freaks out about it. I don't know why, since it always snows in Buffalo when it's cold enough.

I'm not that impressed by two or three feet of snow - especially in New England. I can remember winters in western New York when it snowed at least a foot a week and lakes froze over so solid you could drive across 'em. Was in PA for the blizzard of '78 - that one was pretty kewl. Drifts between roadside berms literally as deep as the berms (up to 10 feet), no snow at all to speak of on top. Was here in the WNC mountains for the Blizzard of '93. Snow to the eaves on the lee side of the wind, we were without power for 9 days. After a week of taking care of city folks who hadn't prepared (no warning, a forecast of 2-4 inches maybe), National Guard finally showed up in a Huey over the garden to see if we in the outlying boonies were still alive. They saw smoke from the wood stove (we were warm, could cook) and food on the second story deck. We held up an empty case of beer hoping they'd drop some as emergency rations, they just waived and flew on.

...so we hiked on down to the road where our old Land Cruiser was parked (rhino-proof door variety) and went back into town for more... §;o)
