To be honest, I LOVED Upstairs/Downstairs - the original series - not the few new episodes which were lame.

I have only watched a couple of Downton Abbey episodes and those not in order.  They just don't ring true - masters and servants were never that familiar.  Upstairs hardly knew what downstairs looked like so you can forget about them giving servants one of the good bedrooms for their wedding night.  A servant in any kind of trouble - any kind - would be booted out the door with no reference.  Getting the family lawyer to help your maid?  Pull the other one, mate.

That is it for me.  I won't be watching anymore - and I already know what happens in Season 4!!!  I read British newspapers.  But I won't tell.

(Yeah, I know it is all fantasy and sometimes you need Fred and Ginger.  But it's BORING, too!)

There are some plot contrivances in Downton that seem patently absurd, and some quite anachronistic dialogue ("sucking up to ine's in-laws"??? "A steep learning curve"???)

Still it's addictive in our household.

and stopped watching after the first two.  But then, quite by chance, in season 2, we stumbled upon the last episode and got sucked into the WWII theme, the Nazis, etc. .   This prompted us to start all over again with the first season.  We ended up watching the whole thing.

Nothing can match the original, that's for sure.  But this wasn't entirely without interest.

      It's the Supreme Court, stupid!
