  •  The European horsemeat scandal continues (6+ / 0-)

    16 countries have now been impacted by the scandal, and it appears consumers throughout the continent have no way to determine whether or not the beef they purchase is really horsemeat instead.

    Ireland is exporting horses for slaughter.  A meat producer in the UK was inspected w/o prior warning and found to be cutting up horse steaks...but the owner insisted the meat wasn't intended for the British consumer...only those nasty, horse eating Belgians.

    Inspectors pouring over the supposedly required documentation at meat production plants have discovered that the paperwork associated with much of the meat is so vague as to leave them unclear as to either the meat's origin or its final destination.

    Of course, we can all be sure that our US food supply chain doesn't have issues like these.

    Oregon: Sure...it's cold. But it's a damp cold.
