    i think you've made an apt connection between the rawlsian veil of ignorance and support for the kill list.  at base, what rawls seems to be on about is that people who are to a degree enfranchised and "have something" are loathe to give it up for an uncertain future where the rules change and they could lose the basis of their enfranchisement.  orwell described the phenomenon very clearly in 1984, where he articulated the benefits of adherence to both the outer party and the inner party.  those enfranchised by their adherence to the outer party didn't have much, but their ability to imbibe in a lump of horseflesh now and again and some other trifles separated them from the common man - it was enough to keep them attached and protect the regime.

    perhaps the connection between our team winning and enfranchisement needs to be broken for more than just the poor and those that have fallen off of the middle class due to the economic crisis before a tipping point is reached.  the rich and corporate are greedy enough, it'll happen one of these days, i'd imagine.
