reviewer I respect said the uncut UK version was on Netflix and worth a look (this was back in Season 1). I have Netflix, so I checked it out. Very entertaining, Season 1. Season 2 still good, if not quite as much as Season 1.

Season 3 is like, WTF? Sure, there are a few good moments, but they seem to be completely overrun by the much lesser moments. And one or two of the characters I used to love now I wish would just go away forever. But I've come this far for Season 3, and with only this episode and one more left, I'm gonna see it through.

Reason I didn't catch it last night when it aired was because I was watching another show: House of Cards on Netflix. It's the new American remake of the British show (which I loved). Don't think anything can compare to the UK original, but this version is fine, it's very contemporary on the issues, too: includes fracking politics, attacks on collective bargaining of public employee unions, and humanitarian non-profits selling out to corporate interests.

In sum: Netflix at $8.00 a month is not a bad entertainment investment, esp. if you live in a craphole small town like me, where independent films almost never come to town.  (You can guess I'm not living in Oakland anymore. Got forced out by the bad economy, can't afford to live in my own hometown anymore).

House of Cards too, and also loved the British version.

Spacey is doing a great job with this character, as are the actresses who play his wife and Zoe.

were you aware that the actress who plays his wife is Robin Wright?  And I agree, she's doing an excellent job. Hardly recognizable (acting-wise) from her days as the Princess Bride!

I tried my best to approach watching this new version of HoC NOT making constant comparisons to the original. I wanted to enjoy it (or not enjoy it if it sucked) on its own merits. I think anyone who loved the original who doesn't approach it that way is bound to be disappointed.
