    I don't mean to cause any pain.  It's easy to get caught up in the argument and not remember that those statistics we argue over are people's lives.

    Making suicide a crime seems, well, a bit pointless.  And criminalizing attempted suicide is really the wrong way to deal with it.  Suicide and attempted suicide are a completely different dynamic than violent crime.  Lumping them in with crime obscures the different dynamics at work.  That was my point above.  Even though violent crime rates are falling, suicides are increasing.  I feel that making it harder to get a gun could help reduce suicide rates.

      my experience is decades old.

      However, it is important to understand the data behind the statistics which one uses when "understanding" an issue.

      When discussing crime and statistics on gun violence, suicide by gun most definitely DOES need to be included.

      It is a violent death, due to a gun, even if the perpetrator is also the victim.
