How can you get away with something that never happened? How can you get away with obstructing a nomination that didn't take place?

Susan Rice was "widely seen as Obama's first choice" to succeed Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. At least three Republicon Senators announced they would filibuster if she were nominated.  She attempted unsuccessfully to placate the opponents, but ultimately withdrew her name from consideration stating that the confirmation process would be "lengthy, disruptive and costly".

      •  "Widely seen" isn't "nominated." (1+ / 0-)

It's giving much too much power to the MSM echo chamber.

Rice was not nominated.  Her nomination never existed.  It was not obstructed or blocked because it didn't exist.  This is all true.

What did I write that you are taking issue with?  I wrote that they "got away with derailing Rice".  I never said she was nominated, so I really don't see what your issue is.  The general understanding is that she was going to be nominated until some Senate Republicans made clear how fiercely they would oppose her.

Maybe the general understanding is wrong and the President would never have nominated her.  No way to know now.  But I think the Senate gang that lashed out against her felt emboldened by what they felt was a success, and that was my point.
