    Never fear failure in any endeavor. It is to be expected. I keep the first fly I ever tied. It is a blob of black feathers, black dubbing, black thread covered in far too much head cement that I may as well blocked it up in clear epoxy.

    I love that fly. It makes every other adventure in fly tying just that. I don't care if I goof up a pattern. Some of my "goofs" have turned into go to flies.

    Long story short. Do a book. The way you do it matters not. The end result does and just like tying a fly, you'll get better with each one that you do and with 'Ol Andy I think you have a lifetimes worth of material. You need a foil you'll have lots of volunteers.

    Give blood. Play hockey.
