    is how current law manages for-profit business activities of charitable organizations.   So paying taxes would be the "same rules".  Now you could change that, but you'd be changing that for everyone.  Including, by the way, the bake sales and car washes (technically, for profit activities) for most small nonprofits as well as the investment income from most foundations, all of which is technically income not related to your exempt purpose.
