and filibuster reform - real filibuster reform - is a damn good idea, but it's never going to happen as long as Harry Reid sits in the Senate Majority Leader's chair.

    Why not?

Officially, Senator Reid believes in the comity and the traditions and the collegial atmosphere of the Senate, and pushing rules that force the Senate to do its job - or, failing that, force the GOP to actually filibuster things they want filibustered - is simply being too nasty to his "distinguished colleagues".

Unofficially, he's the "good cop" for the plutocracy to Mitch McConnell's "bad cop". He gets to sit back, obstruct any real reform of the Senate (as he did after 2010, and again after 2012), allow any progressive legislation that actually makes it out of committee to die on the floor (or get watered down to an unrecognisable ghost of itself in order to buy the previous GOP votes to even let it have a vote) and blame all the results on Mitch McConnell. And the party base buys it every time.

The petition you should be circulating is one to your state's (Democratic) Senator/s, demanding that they oust Reid as SML. Then reform might happen - but not before.

And if they refuse, start looking at primary challengers who aren't owned by Wall Street - especially in very blue states, where you don't need to triangulate to win.
