    A way can be found to allow private parties to access the background check system without it turning into a taxpayer-funded background check system for employers, and without requiring private sales to go through an FFL who charges a fee to use a system that they don't pay to access, then this is something that I could support.

    Maybe make free NICS checks a condition of accepting an FFL? It would seem to me that the opportunity for ammo and accessory sales, since you've already got them in the store, would more than offset the loss of potential revenue from charging scarcity rents for access to what is, after all, a publicly owned resource.
