    What happened to all those assurances that "any" changes to "entitlements" would not affect anyone at or near retirement age (which was a shifting group, to be sure; sometimes it started from age 55 and other times it started from age 62)?  

    What happened to President Obama's first-hand knowledge of the protections that were and weren't available to his very own mother and the concern and compassion he had as a consequence of that personal experience?  

    This deal really stinks bigtime!

      would "shield" those ages 55 and older.  Believe it or not, that was part of the Ryan Plan.

      The Democrats never promised that, nor do they intend to shield those near retirement (more than a couple or so years, in regard to means testing, etc.)
