There is literally it's own social group.

        •  That's excessive. It has value (2+ / 0-)

in areas where armed gangs are on the prowl.

Generally, though, cops make good neighbors. Good citizens. Not much different from fire or DPW.

Carrying a gun is the big difference.

          That's here anyway.

        •  no the police learn that again a difference (0+ / 0-)

and frankly most civilians can't understand and in a way more power to them

they don't have to deal with the stress of a daily job where you don't know if you're going to be alive at the end of the shift, they don't have to deal with the stress of having  each encounter possibly turn deadly.

          •  That old chesnut? (0+ / 0-)

Doctors have stressful jobs they don't torture patients because they can't figure out why a baby is sick. Rhetorical fail.

                not just the police.

This does not justify violence. Paramedics who get to the point they can't find the ability to deal with their patients on a human level are removed from the job the burn out rate is 5 years. Paramedics generally don't have deadly force on their person.

The reality is in some places people hate the police and often with good reason. If they can't trust them they will not call for help. The credibilty as seen here for many police departments is zero. That is also reality.

It is currently going in the wrong direction and we need ways to turn it around.

It only puts those who are actually good at the job in danger. You don't beat someones head against the ground because you are stressed out. If you are thinking thats a good idea you need a vacation or a new job.

It really is just that simple

I was a volunteer firefighter and emt later a battalion cheif in a small fire department.

The things you see and have to deal with are awful. They are not things you want to talk about to friends who are not in the department because nobody needs those pictures in their head.

You talk to people who are experiencing the same thing and the society becomes closed.

they would do it to themselves. Like  I said no person with a brain wants to unload the kind of stuff a first responder sees on someone who really doesn't need to know.

You have only those who have seen similar to turn to.
