...our tiny local newspaper that comes out only twice each week (Weds. and Sat.) has an article today about the "PC Police."

Russ Neal, who wrote it, rails against:

    1) folks who get on the case of someone who states he has a big problem playing sports with a gay person on his team (Russ believes the First Amendment lets you say anything you want about anyone at anytime.)

    2) the Redskins.  He said the name is "honoring the bravery of Native Americans throughout our history.  Leave it alone."  He goes on the say the Redskins got there name when they started out in Boston in 1932 as the Boston Braves...but later changed their name to the REDskins because the Boston baseball team is the Boston Red Socks.

    3) the Memphis City Council which changed the name of Nathan Bedford Forrest Park to the Health Sciences Park.  He said he sides with Civil War Historian Harold Holzer who thinks its wrong to change the name of the park...just because Nathan Bedford Forrest was a businessman, an alderman, a slave trader and a member of the Ku Klux Klan.  The reasoning is that changing the parks name "actually takes away from history." (Russ Neal agrees)...

...but he's dead wrong on this. And I wish he'd done a bit more pushing of Steven Spielberg on the Lincoln project so that the black people in that film weren't either invisible or passive and so that the vote that forms the core of the film wasn't seen for more than it actually was historically.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.
