    ...but he had his redeeming qualities. First, being a staunch secular, he was not tolerating religious fundamentalism and that meant he was deeply resented by those who were fanatics. Iraq had reasonably modern existence under Saddam with education, arts, women's rights and modern dress, economy, infrastructure and a pretty capital city, Baghdad. Our invasion destroyed it all and took the country backwards where now women have to cover from head to toe and the fundamentalists are in power. In addition hundreds of thousands have died, maimed and many were tortured. The level of human suffering the invasion inflicted on the population boggles the mind.

    Saddam was a tyrant (terrorized the minorities like the Iraqi Kurds in the North and the Iraqi Shiites in order to hold onto power) yes but he was not necessarily an enemy to USA or to the Western civilization.

    We had no legitimate reason to invade Iraq or to capture and kill Saddam.

    We were fooled by the 9/11 hypnosis. That hypnosis made it easier to sell us the false WMD claims.

    9/11...Saddam had nothing to do with it.
