  •  Sorry, I cannot even slightly agree (7+ / 0-)

If the most ambitious reforms of Udall and Merkley had been passed, this would still have happened. The best reforms of all, which would have included ending the filibuster on presidential nominees, were not even on the table.

Harry Reid is still the Majority Leader who managed to shepherd the Affordable Care Act to passage in a caucus with Joe Lieberman, Ben Nelson, Mark Begich, Mary Landrieu and Blanche Lincoln, and against the worst obstructionism in history.   The fact that he didn't back reforms which wouldn't have prevented another GOP abuse anyway doesn't change that.

calls for the elimination of the filibuster on motions to proceed.

So, you are incorrect in your rebuttal here.

It would also expedite executive and judicial branch nominations by reducing post-cloture debate from 30 hours to two.

    •  Reconsider what it means. (1+ / 0-)

This is exactly why Reid would be perfect as Majority Whip, while a blue state Democrat like Patty Murray would be better as Majority leader.

Republicans are far more socialist than Democrats. Just because they want to redistribute the wealth upwards does not make it any better.
