What other methods of influencing our government must we try?

is voting the only way to participate in a democracy? Doesn't democracy just mean that citizens have say in the decisions of the government? Surely there are other ways way we can have say beside voting. There must be other ways our voices can be heard. i'm not saying the idea of democracy should be abandoned.

Sure, nobody wants to admit it.  We don't have a representative government.  We have a government that is run by lobbyists and corporations.

The problem is that the American people have no power to influence how taxpayer money is spent.

If our government doesn't represent its citizenry, do we have no responsibility in the matter? There are 300 some million of us. We really have no power to influence our government? How can anyone govern except as how the American people allow them to? We might now like it, but we allow it.

if Congress after Congress continues not to do its job of representing The People — no matter who is voted into office — that's a pretty good sign that our system of government as presently constituted has failed.
