wikipedia has replicated these  I'm sure there are other reconstructions.

The point about the Younger Dryas is a good one that made me think.

I think my answer is that unlike the Younger dryas and other catastrophes, this time, we understand what is causing the mass extinction, we understand that there are potentially disastrous consequences for civilization (humantiy itself will survive since we're ridiculously widespread primates), and we know we can prevent it.

If it were happening and we were powerless, that's one thing.  To create such potential disasters though seems very irresponsible.

        •  Oh, THAT one.... (0+ / 0-)

It was that one was created for Al Gore and includes a paranoid projection ending in 2040. The projection part was censored and magically became "actual data" for the current situation.

I agree with you as to your last statement.

Rapid climate change has had major reprocussions over history. In fact it may have STARTED history with the destruction of north africa and the creation of the sahara and arabian deserts in the 4th milleniumn BC. The extremely rapid global cooling of the fourth and fifth centuries AD may have caused the end of the Roman empire and the rise of Islam. Global warming may have ended the classic Mayan civilization and Teotauacan.

            I see.  It's all a paranoid projection
