But we ALL know The First Amendment was not created for a hate monger like Limbaugh to be guaranteed his own radio show on our public airways, to stage and promote racism and misogyny while making millions.

That is not what We The People had in mind.

Actually, the First Amendment WAS created for people like Limbaugh. If the First Amendment doesn't protect Rush Limbaugh, then it doesn't protect Amy Goodman: she uses the American airways to attack the American system of government.

    •  here's the important part: (4+ / 0-)
to be guaranteed his own radio show on our public airways
on stations licensed to operate in the public interest.

the RW blowhards are not political  entertainers satisfying free speech market forces. and they've been getting a free speech free ride.

limbaugh is the point man for a corporate sponsored and protected monopoly abusing public airwaves for coordinated repetition of corporate propaganda. it basically represents free and very loud 24/7/365 advertising for everything republican and 1%.

he and his wannabes are coordinated by think tanks and  their monopoly-protected  scripted repetition is used to sell war, division and hate, tax breaks for billionaires, deregulation, flunky supremes, and worst of all right now, global warming denial.

he and they are the biggest PC cops and censors-by-threat this country has ever had.

the left finally needs to get in their face and yell back.

This is a list of 76 universities for Rush Limbaugh that endorse global warming denial, racism, sexism, and GOP lies by broadcasting sports on over 170 Limbaugh radio stations.

      •  You want to restrict Limbaugh's access.... (0+ / 0-)

....to the public airwaves, because of the political nature of his speech.

The First Amendment was designed to prevent exactly those kinds of restrictions.

If the First Amendment doesn't protect Limbaugh, then it doesn't protect Goodman. If you can't see that, then you are as embarrassingly and dangerously short sighted as those "Americans" who insist that the Bill of Rights doesn't protect terrorists.

          ment.

the only reason his show is guaranteed is because they protect him with a monopoly. he can scream fire in a crowded theater all he wants because he is part of that monopoly.

he can be as racist and sexist as he wants but he's not guaranteed a free speech free ride.

if he wasn't part of a coordinated corporate propaganda tool he'd be lying and being wrong about everything on 50 pissant stations and most would be in the south.

          •  Nice strawman. (0+ / 0-)

If the FCC tried to restrict a broadcaster's access to the public airwaves, because of the political content of those broadcasts, then the FCC would be in violation of the First Amendment.

The First Amendment must protect speech that we find abhorrent and I proudly stand with the ACLU, when I proclaim that even neo-Nazi speech is protected by the First Amendment.

limbaugh is a tool, reading think tank talking points for pay.  he  is a corporation.

he is not a guy with a soapbox standing on the corner calling your father a traitor and your mother a slut. he's on EVERY street corner in the country calling your father a traitor and your mother a slut and you can't even call him.

he can say what he wants as an individual but he abdicated that individuality a long time ago.  he's a corporation. and he is protected by the monopoly.

Please show me the  super-secret addendum to the First Amendment, where it repeals the right of political speech in cases where:

limbaugh is a tool, reading think tank talking points for pay.  he  is a corporation.

he is not a guy with a soapbox standing on the corner calling your father a traitor and your mother a slut. he's on EVERY street corner in the country calling your father a traitor and your mother a slut and you can't even call him.

or even one radio station. nothing guarantees him that.

what you quoted above related to the ignorant notion i hear from so many americans, and one that limbaugh and his lovers like to cultivate, that he is just some independent political entertainer and the 600 stations he's on reflect the market  for his talk.

and so they criticize those who would actually use their free speech rights to reduce his dominance/monopoly on the air waves  by suggesting they want to take his FSRs away.

and that goes back to the original point i made, remember this part?

to be guaranteed his own radio show on our public airways
free speech rights do not guarantee him that

    •  I don't agree. It's not debate (0+ / 0-)

Limbaugh is the political equivalent of yelling fire in a crowded movie theater.  Goodman does not do this.  There might be voices on the left that do this (Revolutionary Communist Party?), but they are not on the public airwaves.

I lived in Europe for many years and came to understand that the USA's approach to free speech is simplistic and superficial.  Political debate in Europe is not hampered by laws against preaching racial hatred or support of Nazism; in fact it is strengthened by those laws.

Show me where Goodman mocks someone based on race or gender.  Show me where Goodman spends three days to insult someone for exercising their rights as a citizen.
