  •  The prophecy would be down right scary if (5+ / 0-)

Cardinal Peter Turkson, who I think will be the next pope, was a Roman and not from Ghana.

    •  Judging from his wikipedia page: (0+ / 0-)

      1) two credentials from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, one of which is a doctorate

      2) he is currently a resident of Rome because of an appointment by Ratzinger in 2010

      3) he's Roman Catholic (well duh)

So that's three counts on which the adjective "Roman" could be applied to him currently, completely ignoring current behavior and potential future behavior if selected (which could make it stick in terms of 'acts like a Roman').

And there's also a multitude of ways 'Peter' could be applied to any number of potential papal candidates, not the least because the entire claim to papal power is basically 'being in Peter's place', to the point where Girzone's Jesus-come-back-for-a-visit-early character in the Joshua series insists on calling the pope 'Peter' and tells him and the rest of the immediate hierarchy off for losing track of the spiritual heirs to the rest of the eleven loyal disciples.

So to make things short, just about ANY Roman Catholic taking on the role of Peter as bishop of Rome could theoretically be called 'Peter the Roman' simply from the requirements and description of the position itself.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.
