  •  So far -- knock on wood -- my (15+ / 0-)

only experience with the criminal "justice" system was a day down in lower Manhattan.

I was supposed to help bail out a friend of the boss.

Got down there around two-three p.m.

Lots of public defenders going, "Your honor, my client was arrested for ONE marijuana cigarette" and lots more of the judge going "Time Served!" and banging the gavel.  That "time served" was in the Tombs, over the weekend.

Boss's friend's case didn't come up until about nine p.m. and then his friends had to scramble for more cash for the bail (I had what the boss gave me: not enough, and no going back to Midtown for more by then).

We finally sprung him around 10:30 and I got back to work around 11 p.m.   Boss had to pay me for many, many more hours than either of us reckoned on.

I should have bought a bug-crusher of a pb novel to take with me -- and would have, had I known I would spend a good 7-8 hours waiting around a courtroom.

And while states are allowing people to grow marijuana, the DOJ, ICE, and DEA still go smashing through people's homes, with and without warrants, if they happen to live in an area where a lot of people grow the stuff.

        •  and the people have been complained about (0+ / 0-)

Police seem to be raiding, even if not actively attacking small backyard/basement MJ growers, a complaint from a neighbor (extortion, payback opportunities) can and may well bring a raid....while ignoring giant grows you can actually see from space and google earth.

Usually, or maybe often there is no or little jail time unless there is stolen property, parole violations, and guns involved.ymmv
