  •  I don't think it's likely that anyone (8+ / 0-)

will be held legally accountable for the Iraq fiasco. On the other hand, it is possible that we can stop the warmongers from attacking Iran.

Many Americans, not just those of us on the Left, are sick and tired of fighting these useless, expensive, bloody wars. I think if the MIC tries to start another one, they'll run into public opposition much stiffer than what they faced in '03. And we are far better organized than we were then.

One thing for sure -- we should NOT be counting on Obama to keep us out of future wars. It's not clear that he would be able to do that, even if he wanted to. He needs us to stop that from happening.

    •  Excellent point. We're the people, we have far (6+ / 0-)

more clout than we think.  2012 should have made that clearer to all of us.  I get really impatient with the litany of reasons things will never change- press, Republicans, the monied elite.  Nonsense.  We've always had a media controlled by the wealthy, with a few progressive outliers.  In 1932 a friend hurt my mom's feelings by repeating this "A Republican is one who can't fully enjoy a sumptuous banquet unless he knows with certainty that somewhere, someone is hungry." (Mom was 8, her dad was active in the Republican Party, she told me the story 70 years later.) We see the Republicans exactly the same, 80+ years later.  We're in a newer Gilded Age, which is exactly the same inequality that has existed in most cultures over most of history.

The power is still in our hands if we're willing to grab hold and fight.  Remember, the first wave of union organizers didn't just get fired, they got their heads busted with ax handles, they got shot, their families were threatened.  Do we have what it takes to fight that hard? If not we are complicit in our own exploitation.

I'm not looking for a love that will lift me up and carry me away. A love that will stroll alongside and make a few amusing comments will suffice.
