Allowing the claim to survive the veteran would certainly remove the VA's apparent incentive to simply outwait claimants. I'm not certain how influential that apparent incentive is in actually causing the delays, but removing it would benefit veterans and the claims processing system.

The most effective lobbyists on veterans issues are the Congressionally chartered national veterans organizations such as the VFW, American Legion, and DAV. While these orgs tend to be generally somewhat consevative in outlook, this is something they might get behind.

Perhaps as effective as writing one-off letters to Congresscritters might be a nationwide campaign by individuals who are members of the recognized veterans orgs to get their state orgs to agitate for this action from the nationals.

Once, many years ago, the National Commander of AMVETS told me of his visit to the Oval Office. "How many members do you have?" the President asked, trying to judge the political clout of the organization. The national orgs have literally millions of members, paid professional lobbyists, and are a force to be reckoned with on the Hill.

this hard claim at Bono's.?   We spoke of the National Orgs getting involved on backlogs....It would create incentive for stopping backlog.
National commanders of all three big ones need to push for his.  DAV, PVA, VFW... and does someone one know anyone who writes for military.com?  We need some bell ringers on this .

Ecletablog (did I spell that right) knows how to contact Maddow to contact you Bear.

you know I'm looking for vets orgs members to start this process from the bottom up. Once there is a grass roots stir around an orgs posts or chapters then it'll be time to get the state orgs and NEC's (National Executive Committeemen) involved.

These leaders are elected. They are responsive to their members, but almost never get out in front of them, so there has to be at least a little noise at the grass roots level before they can get on board.

A wide spread movement amongst the state orgs would bring the nationals around pdq.

were on top of that situation PDQ a couple of weeks ago.
It always starts from the ground up.   The captian ( the friend vet that Jack checked on) is friends with the post commander here in Florida  (VFW) and I will propose a grassroots effort here as well.
