  •  "Great Senators like Bob Dole"??? Perhaps you are (7+ / 0-)

thinking about the kinder, gentler Bob Dole of the Viagra ads, but those of us who protested the Vietnam War only remember Bob Dole as one of the meanest of Nixon's hatchet man in his criticism of Viet Nam War protesters, actions that he has never explained, never repudiated, and apparently never really thought about much.

Dole may be old and lovable now, but back when it made a difference, he was the hawkish of the hawks and if it were up to him, the Viet Nam War would still be going on.

He was once a hack but by comparison to today's hacks he looked moderate.  But you must take the entire life of work, which includes being from the WWII generation.

I never voted for the guy but I will take someone who knows about sacrifice and compromise verses ANY republican alive today because they know of neither.

He publicly and proudly affirmed his friendships with the likes of Teddy Kennedy and George McGovern.  Republicans today won't even rub shoulders with members of their own party if they think they are RINO.

If George McGovern, one of my all-time heroes could get past Dole/Viet Nam, my guess is that he would want everyone else to do the same.

Yep, compared to most, he was a great one.
