  •  During the buildup to Iraq I became very angry (8+ / 0-)

In those days I considered me a Republican (I hated Bush but I had supported McCain in 2000).

After 9/11 I wanted Osama.  When I saw the 2nd plan hit the WTC I knew it was him who we needed to get.  I was just a semi-informed guy.  I even volunteered to help catch him (long story but I had some connections that could help).  I was told; "don't worry, we'll get him".

So when they came out in public talking Iraq I was shocked.  Osama was still on the run.

So I decide to open the hood on the whole thing and I came across PNAC and the neo-cons.  And I was just a guy on the Internets. Most people supported the war, because of the lies (Kerry and Hillary did too).  Some ex-Repugs didn't.  I did exchange emails with Jim Webb and Arianna Huffington which sealed my decision to leave the Republicans and join those who opposed the Bush/Cheney administration.  I was even trying to organize a demonstration against the invasion. This is when I stumbled upon DailyKos, an oasis of truth in a sea of lies.

That so many, otherwise smart, people went along with the charade drove me crazy (almost).  I lived in The OC, a sea of red.

Slowly but surely America started to learn the truth (no WMD was big, they couldn't even find some that Saddam may have forgotten to destroy).  But way too slowly, Bush got reelected.

And today, Cheney is still credible with some people.  Certainly Bush was not allowed in the Romney convention but the gaga McCain still somehow defends him vs. Hagel.

Obama is slowly turning the boat around, slowly.  Hopefully we wont't go over the cliff or do something really stupid with Iran.  The neo-cons are still around and as deceitful as ever.  John Bolton is on Fox almost every day.

We got long ways to go.  At least Rachel Maddow is doing what she can to make sure we don't forget how gullible we were and how deceitful the Repug/neo-cons can be.

Daily Kos an oasis of truth. Truth that leads to action.

I mean it was not hard to figure this conspiracy out if you just paid very simple attention and read the back pages of newspapers not just the front page.

It was just how easy it was to deconstruct the lies that set me to ranting on-line against not just the Republicans.

Both parties allowed Americans to be misled.

It is this disillusionment that has me parsing every sentence I hear on Social Security and Medicare.  I don't trust a word from them anymore.  People who will send the Iowa or Minnesota National Guard to die for a lie will lie to you about anything.

    •  This rush to war was the same (4+ / 0-)

Reason I found DKos too. When it was just him and Steve Soto, Steve Gilliard and RonK?. It was back in fall if 2002

I didnt trust or believe what we were being told by traditional media, so I searched online for alternate information and voices. I think my very first site was Eschaton...and then found this, and myDD. Then branched out...billmon and whiskeybar. Media whores on line, left coaster, talking points memo, firedoglake etc..

So many talented and knowledgeable people. Mostly it was refreshing to find others out there in the wilderness who were also questioning what our government was doing.

      Forever grateful for that...

Government of, for, and by the wealthy corporate political ruling class elites. We are the 99%-OWS.
