  •  I loosed the bonds of popular culture (10+ / 0-)

during graduate school.  I got interested in folk music and paid much less attention to pop music during that era.  Despite being gay, Madonna's music has never appealed to me.  During graduate school, I was something of a film buff (Cornell had an awesome film program).  After grad. school, my rate of movie watching fell off because I only ever wanted to see small indy films, rather than the standard Hollywood product, and these were sometimes difficult to catch depending on where I live.  (For example, it is impossible to watch a film with subtitles in Erie County, PA.  They just don't run them here, presumably because not enough people will pay to see them, no matter how good they are.)  In any case, having enough free time to go to the cinema these days is difficult to arrange.  And TV?  I left that behind in grad. school too.  Good thing as it is a complete waste of time.  I will admit with the advent of NetFlix, my partner and I worked our way through "The Sopranos" and "Six Feet Under," but even though these series really were great, the took so much time to watch!  I could have been doing other things!  (That said, I am very intrigued by what I've heard about the new NetFlix series "House of Cards.")

So I am so completely out of step with popular culture, and I don't apologize or it.
