    White House petition, MoveOn?
How can we get this  idea to gain some traction?

To be honest, this issue never resonated with me until a few years ago.

I was at the beach with my family and arrested (not having ID after "declining" a search).  Thrown in a jail cell wearing nothing more than wet shorts.  My arm was cuffed to a wall, the A/C turned down and I was immobilized on a stainless steel "bed".

Hypothermia set in quickly, and that's when I realized I was in real trouble.  The LEO's could be overheard making jokes and comments about this "special treatment".  Things quickly devolved from that point, and as my mental acuity diminished, physical beatings ensued under pretext of my "apparent intoxication" (in actuality, it was hypothermia).

I'll spare you the rest of the details, but what I can say is that this was an event I haven't fully recovered from.  Two orthopedic surgeries so far.  The mental trauma has left me at times struggling to cope.  My children are absolutely terrified of the police.  Surgeries are difficult too for me.  OR's  are kept pretty cold and my pulse and BP go through the roof when I'm brought into a cold OR for surgery.

And above all, guilt.  Incredible guilt over the realization that what I went through was mild in comparison to what others have suffered at the hands of abusive LE.  My failure (thus far) to forgive them and clear my heart has only prolonged the effects.
