  •  ...I do know those stone "fences" well... (13+ / 0-)

...there are several still standing just by my office on Humboldt Ave. in Chico.

Here is an interesting fact.  The spot where my office stands today is where those "immigrants" as you state (they were Chinese) lived along Little Chico Creek.  Of course they lived away from the white people who lived near Bidwell Mansion in Chico proper and in Chapman town, which was built as a town for the workers ("I owe my soul to the company store").

When the white men were fully done with the Chinese, they massacred them by setting there "village" along Little Chico Creek on fire.  Those that tried to escape being burned to death were shot.  POOF...the "Chinese problem" was gone.

When they dug the foundations of where my office stands today, they found lots of Chinese bowls, spoons, jewelry, tea pots, etc.

    So, there you have it.

This kind of massacre of Chinese took place all over California.  Near Santa Cruz the same thing happened.  There is a site where that took place in what is now Forest of Nisene Marks State Park just above Aptos, CA...

Ignorance is bliss only for the ignorant. The rest of us must suffer the consequences.
