not far from Crystal River and so many manatees - I do hold them in my mind with reverence and awe.  The sort of person who wants to ride a manatee is mindless and unaware of the sacred beauty of mother earth and all of her creatures.  I sense a religious undertone - one of Dominionism - man's dominion over animals - which, in my view, is a counterintuitive way of experiencing a joyful and loving life.  Animals are not to be caged.  Animals are not to be ridden.  Manatees are ancient and wonderful large creatures whom we must respect.  Many of the extremist Teabaggers are so out of touch with our world and the love that is at the center of all.  I know this sounds New Age, but I cannot understand the mean dominionism that motivates many Americans.

horses and camels are not abused usually because of being ridden by humans.  I see manatees in a very different way.  I was raised on a small family farm so I know of the usefulness of animals and the need to treat all humanely.
