....he'd want to go public now?

Could it have anything to do with his illigitimite son being a lawyer?

Somebody threatened to spill the beans (sounds like the threat was made to the woman, BTW), and they decided to pre-empt it. Article has info on the son, and he doesn't sound like any threat to either of them.

My wondering leans more toward who threatened to out the situation 30 years after the fact, and what they hoped to accomplish. Of course, we may yet hear from them since it seems their version of events is not quite as benign as the statements issued so far.

    •  Because his son was looking to run as Gov. of NM? (3+ / 0-)

At least that was the rumor back in '10, or he may be looking to run for higher office in the future?  Maybe someone wanted to put a stop to his political future?

To be honest, I stopped thinking about the Domenici family once Old Pete was out of the Senate -- thank goodness for that.

But NM politics has been incestuous, for decades.  I mean, look at what our Dem Chairman has to say with a pat on Old Pete's back even after hearing this news:

Domenici served New Mexico well and "deserves to be left alone, Democratic Party Chairman Javier Gonzales said.

"People need to step away and allow the senator and his family to focus on this in the privacy of their own home."

Bingaman, Lujan and Heinrich, all of them true public servants and with ethics.

Just had to say that, because even though NM has had a long list of loons in office, we have had some really good people representing our state.

Could have easily said "no comment".

What's the point of trying to help your enemy when he's busy self-destructing?

Democratic Leaders must be very clear they stand with the working class of our country. Democrats must hold the line in demanding that deficit reduction is done fairly -- not on the backs of the elderly, the sick, children and the poor.

In hopes that what goes around comes around when there's another Dem scandal.

Yeah, the Republicans always reciprocate when Dems are nice to them.
