    Because they're the ones who can afford TV ads.
    While a few millionaires do self-fund their campaigns (Guv Rick Scott, for instance), most pay for their TV ads using money from OTHER millionaires. (PS--most self-funders lose.  It's not a very effective way to get into office.)

    I think millionaires run because they are the only ones who can afford to.  Very few truck drivers or nurses or McDonald's managers can afford to take a year or so off of work and go without an income while they are out campaigning, even if they are able to raise the money from others to campaign effectively.

      Self-funding, taking time off, having wealthy friends, etc. It all boils down to wealth.

      I think that there's still the perception that someone who is wealthy must be successful and must have contributed to society in some positive way.

      But of course that's not always the case.

      It is more important to be a confident and articulate speaker than to know jack shit about anything.
