Since Daschle left, he's been the heir to the spot, and I don't see anyone taking it from him. Especially as I don't see Chuck enjoying the minority leader role, which is at least a possibility.

As has been discussed here many times, Schumer is next.  First of all, he is the guy on all the Sunday morning talk shows, secondly, he is always speaking at press conferences, with Reid, and third, as head of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee, in 2006 and 2008, he picked up 14 seats for us. Finally, he is both vice-chair of the Democratic caucus in the Senate and is also Chair of the Senate Democratic Policy Committee.

Durbin is a great guy, but, Schumer is up next after Reid.

      •  You've explained why it will be Durbin (0+ / 0-)

Schumer is the warrior, the in front of the cameras guy. Durbin is the behind the scenes dealmaker. They're a perfect team, with Chuck as the whip.
