    Every overtime hour is an unemployment hour for someone else.

    The main reason overtime is supposed to cost more (say, time and a half) is not to make it up to the worker. It's to encourage the employer to pay another worker to do it during regular time, because it's cheaper. And employs more workers.

    Of course, most employers are bad at labor management and economics. They rely on labor abuse to keep their businesses going, and overwork that hurts them too is a core part of it.
