    With natural gas so cheap and new EPA rules requiring scrubber technology, new coal plants cannot compete with gas.

      In fact, cheap gas is causing existing coal-fired power plants to shut down.

      What will really do in new coal plants is the bloated construction costs. The latest major new coal project (in Southern Illinois) is close to triple over budget.
