  •  But Pleasanton is not "one of the wealthiest" (0+ / 0-)

burbs in the Bay Area.  It's more upper-middle exurb.  It's not even one of the wealthiest burbs in Alameda County, and Alameda is pretty low on Bay Area status despite being closer in than the real exurbs (Sonoma, Solano, Napa Counties, as well as Eastern Contra Costa).

What the club did to the workers is just awful, but this may be more wanna-be-aristocracy than the real thing you'd find in Piedmont or Atherton.  Definitely the actions of the nouveau riche, and Pleasanton is beaucoup nouveau.

According to Forbes' Most Expensive Zip Codes list, which now skews anti-urban (because it includes condos and townhouses in the valuations), Pleasanton's 94566 zip ranks #273 with a median home value of $938,900.

I'm sorry, my little (under 1500 sf) shack in Silicon Valley is worth at least 25% more than that, and no, I do not live in Los Altos Hills (ranked #7 on the list), let alone Atherton (#3).  There are higher-ranked zips in the East Bay, several of them.  Pleasanton is not Tally-Ho Wut territory.  More like Valley Ho.  And not Silicon Valley.  They're a lot more like the San Fernando Valley over there.

    •  Well (0+ / 0-)
In 2005 and 2007, Pleasanton was ranked the wealthiest middle-sized city in the United States by the Census Bureau

Pleasanton is number 63 in Money's list of "The Best Places to Live" in 2010,[4] and was also named one of "Americans' Top Hometown Spots" in the United States in 2009 by Forbes.[5]
      •  Wealthiest CITY (0+ / 0-)

The places with the serious wealth aren't really cities. They tend to ban commercial areas entirely. Piedmont is an exception, and they're still an enclave of Oakland.  Look at Atherton, Hillsborough, Scarsdale (NY), etc.

Pleasanton is a big suburb with some nicer areas and no slums, that's all.
