I would love a link to anything that gives more detail on the proposed prohibition of political activity by public employees.

Watching from Wisconsin, I fear more and more elements of this sort of thing in our future too.

Kansas lawmakers are set to hold a hearing Tuesday afternoon on a bill that could dramatically overhaul collective bargaining for teachers, just days after the bill was introduced.

"It breaks my heart to see what some of the folks in the building behind me have been doing to the place that we call home," said Lisa Ochs, president of the American Federation of Teachers-Kansas.

Many of the proposals opposed by the crowd deal with restricting the Kansas National Education Association and public employee unions.

A Kansas House committee endorsed legislation Thursday to restrict political fundraising by public employee unions, a day after a business lobbyist created a Statehouse stir by remarking during a hearing, "I need this bill passed so we can get rid of public sector unions."

The Kansas effort follows measures in other states, such as Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan, which have passed measures to limit the collective bargaining rights of public employees and, opponents say, weaken unions.

A task force appointed by Gov. Sam Brownback to study ways of making schools more efficient plans to recommend a review of state laws that give teachers collective bargaining rights, the governor's office confirmed Thursday.

While details of the proposal are not known, the action opens the possibility that state legislators could follow the lead of legislatures in Wisconsin and Ohio that have stripped teachers and other public employees of collective bargaining rights.

      •  Ugly, scary stuff. (0+ / 0-)

I still don't see any prohibitions on political activity in there, though....
