    Working on environmental issues, I see this dynamic all the time. The Building Trades will often partner with the Chamber of Commerce and Republicans who may be fighting against the right to organize the next day.

    I understand that unions will work to get jobs for their members. It's what they're there for. But, at some point I hope more trade unions recognize that giving the child of a union worker a birth defect or learning disability is also a violation of worker rights, just as much as an unsafe workplace is. We have to work on finding less destructive jobs to create and giving first dibs to for retraining and placement to workers who would otherwise be building oil pipelines and coal plants.
