    unfortunately this is not the first time I've heard of union groups swallowing whatever their potential employers dish out, if there's a prospect of jobs included. In the instance I'm most familiar with, the employers got what they wanted (approval for a community-destroying real estate project) and the jobs never materialized. Instead, the developer has switched to a construction method that requires 1/10 as much labor as was projected in the original (approved) plans. It's hard to blame people who need jobs, but it's so shortsighted and ultimately self-destructive.

    I hope your letter gets some response from the AFL.
