    I can't imagine a scenario of ecological evacuation resulting in more than a tiny sliver of the population could actually leave the planet permanently that's plausible (no matter how altruistic the funders or not).  Can you, honestly?

      ecological evacuation is viable.  At least in the sense of earth is so damaged, and so screwed, that the only option is to leave it.  If it gets to that point, then I believe we'll basically be extinct.  

      IMHO, large scale space development and space settlement REQUIRE us to save the planet, in part because we start using space resources, as an alternative to earth resources that are either damaging, or limited.
