    they don't sit around and wait for someone else to organize it. obama is acting as a politician here, not organizer. at any rate, i'm glad to have the support now, even if it would have been more useful back in '08 when we came close to beating prop 8 at the outset.

      in building that majority or near-majority.

      If Prop 8 had been turned down, who knows if this or a similar case would have reached the Supreme Court, with the potential to wipe out this form of discrimination in one fell swoop?

      The ballot box must NEVER be used as a tool of oppression.

        winning is how you win, not by losing and hoping a chain of legal cases go your way. obama is a trailing indicator on marriage equality, and while i welcome his arrival on the "long arc of justice" side of the discussion, i'm not going to pretend that he helped in '08, because he made it actively worse for our side then, by handing the haters some choice sound bites at the end of the campaign.

      you are right, leadership involves building that majority, not waiting for it to happen.  I wish Obama was a bit more proactive on this, although better late than never.
