    book.  I really, really wanted to like A Short History of Islam, but I just couldn't get through it. She's not my kind of writer and evidently not yours, either.

    It's funny, because the book I diaried upthread is quite abstruse for someone with my kind of (non-science-oriented) brain, yet Singh writes so beautifully and entertainingly it's quite possible to be swept along with the flow.  And it's fun to pick up on his references to Omar Khayyam's Rubaiyat when he (Singh) discusses cosmology.
