  •  Boehner's "stealing" is based on two premises: (0+ / 0-)
#1: Money people earn from whatever source - wages, dividends and interest, investment successes, gambling, etc. - rightfully belongs to the people.
#2: The reasons government should be allowed to take some of our money must be limited. Very limited.

The core of the Republicans' approach to taxes, spending and government isn't any more complicated than that.

So, Yes, Boehner can say "stealing" and his base - from Pete Peterson's Wall Street crowd to the conservative constituency in all those red districts - will resonate well to the word. And, linking it to "funding more government" is a two-fer. (Linking it to deficits and the growing debt burden would be a four-fer.)

Of course, liberals know about these platitudes. We wring our hands at how many more words it takes us to 'splain the sense of the matter.

The GOP's high altitude rhetoric will eventually get translated to specifics, whether it's the sequester meat axe that does it, or the next debt ceiling debacle, or the "debate" in the House over the Continuing Resolution, or the next budget.

Then, the conservatives can be counted on - literally - to swamp public reactions to specifics with a simplified blame game that it is someone else's fault what the spending cuts hit. Anyone else's fault, just not theirs.

Until we can reframe the dialog, we're playing on ground well-prepared by the Far and Farther Right.

2014 IS COMING. Build up the Senate. Win back the House : 17 seats. Plus!
