For some forms of depression, the biggest problem is not feeling BAD all the time. It's that nothing, ever seems to feel GOOD. So life is a lot of total lack of feeling interspersed with a few really painful moments.

The reason bad times are easy to cope with when you are not depressed is that there are good times, too. You get a break. A breath of fresh air. But depression means you are having to deal with feeling slightly bad ALL the time. No one has the endurance to go through that constantly.
