    At a site where I was contracting, the office space was remodeled with new fluorescent lighting being part of the effort. Many of my colleagues found the new lighting way too bright and climbed up on their desks to unscrew one of the tubes directly above them - clearly an unsafe act that would and could not be condoned. Next day, the supervisor ordered offending employees to (a) step up on their wheeled swivel chairs, (b) step from there onto their desks, and (c) re-enable the disconnected tubes. I told the manager that he was an idiot because if anyone fell - or chose to fall - the company would pay a huge price and his own career would be ruined. Yet he persisted ... [He felt personally defied, go figure.]

    Oh ... wait for it ... wait for it ... it was an insurance company.
