  •  OSHA regulations for lock out etc are wonderful! (4+ / 0-)

    I love them.

Now what can we do about OSHA people calling ahead to say that in 6 weeks they will be in your shop to do a "surprise" inspection?
I was really surprised one day when I came into the machine shop I worked at and found lines of yellow and black tape marking where we could or couldn't stand (until the inspection was over then all normal again) and gee, suddenly there's a genuine lock on the broken machine that had been "locked out" with masking tape...

So on the one hand, let me say that I think workplace safety is paramount, but pretending and going through the motions when you've been pre-warned is wrong. In fact the only reason we had that "surprise" anyway was because the drill-press fell down on one of my co-workers and she got pissed enough to call somebody about it.

PS- the people who chose to keep the work going on the Macondo well should be in prison by now for willful negligent manslaughter at least.
