  •  and what odds will you give on that kovie or is it (0+ / 0-)

    just wishful thinking?

The path the president is following doesn't seem to have any forks ahead in the road for getting back to where he started.

Austerity and neoliberalism invariably lead to their own demise. That may happen after Obama leaves office but it will happen and be a stain on his legacy. A HUGE one, that may well define him, the way that Vietnam did LBJ despite all the good he did at home.

the legacy for LBJ despite his war on poverty for me will always be

for Obama, it does not look so good - as the dem party is headed toward fracture, whether that will be while Obama is in office or will be the end result of his presidency remains to be seen. But I talk to too many disgruntled democrats not to feel that way.

The best and most likely outcome I can see is for the GOP to split into the teabaggers and corporatists, Dems to split into corporatists and progressives, corporatists in each party joining forces, teabaggers being marginalized, and progressives no longer being marginalized by corporatists, and everything shifting to the left. Of course, if teabaggers abandon the GOP it'll make it easier for corporatist Dems to join the GOP, which would be bad for us, so I guess this can go either way. Roughly speaking, I think that 1/3 of the country is far right, 1/3 center/corporatist, and 1/3 progressive. How this arranges itself politically is anyone's guess.
