When my mother died, the funeral and the guests were OK, but my siblings were terrible.  They fought over the food, over everything that was said and then started to take things down from the wall and the closet so they could take them home. It was said ... good thing I had bought a bottle of Scotch before I went and fortified myself with a good stiff drink, that mellowed me out enough to see the humor and appreciate the fact I would not need to see them again, ever.

BTW, it is not unusual to have altar calls at a certain brand of Baptist funeral ... there is a certain kind of sick humor to it.  It rather reminded me of the custom in the Middle Ages when the family was gather round to watcht he death ... if it was a good death, it was inducement to lead a good life; if it was a painful, bad death it scared the devil out of you.

Grieve in your way ... peace.
