  •  It is San Francisco though.... (6+ / 0-)

If you're not talking about what billionaire hedgefund bankster Peter G. Peterson is up to you're having the wrong conversations.

    •  SF media is pretty reactionary and right-wing (12+ / 0-)

      ...huge gay community notwithstanding.

Crazy right wing bullshit on the AM radio, no liberal talk at all, not even KGO's limited late-night liberal talk any more.

I'm surprised they haven't managed to kill KPFA, (though the JeezizNazis in Excremento managed to destroy the 94.1 signal in the central valley, after years of the signal being clear and strong....)

      •  Of Course. RW Media for RW Regions, RW Media (12+ / 0-)

in liberal places to provide balance.

My rustbelt OH region has always been blue. We have zero liberal mainstream media on any platform.

media consolidation, ending the fairness doctrine (which kept curb on right wing hate talk) and more.

ah, it seems most of the ills of this century and the middle of the last fall into the lap of little ronnie reagan.

as a friend's husband said years ago before the election, "i know he isn't competent, but i LIKE the men who are pulling the strings".  this was when he was an up and coming investment banker - and before he got royally screwed over by the "big boys".

still, he votes republican ... sigh...

      •  heh - kgo radio has put cumulus on the verge of (5+ / 0-)

bankruptcy! they took the most popular radio talk station in the nation and pushed it down so far in the numbers, they need a ladder to get to the basement now.

to here kron4 do this - after they just took a major leap into being an ''all news" station makes me really want to see them succeed!  they do some other programming, but their bread and butter now is the news - and we are the better for it if this is how they will cover events!

oh, on a sad note, after the news, inside edition was aired and the lead story was of the death of polar mist's beautiful top winning samoyed, cruz.  he was the top winning dog for 2012 - and, he died of rat poisoning thought to be given by someone at the westminster kennel club show.  the vets traced back the timeline from the symptoms, and the wtc was where he was.  there was a peta type woman making rude and ugly comments about show dogs and him having been "debarked" and how cruel, blah blah blah - she was the only person who caused alarm at the show.

unfortunately, this has happened at other shows, too.  sick f*cks who claim dog shows are "cruel" have poisoned dogs before.

what is heartbreaking, this dog was so loved by his people AND by the man who handled him for showing - he was part of an extended family that has left all of us sammy folk in tears for days now.  the animal rescue/rights fanatics have been over the top for years - especially peta.  the woman at the wtc show was thought to be peta.  peta did a "we would NEVER do that" rebuttal then went on to rage against showing dogs and debarking without ever offering a word of sympathy for the family who loved that beautiful 3yr old boy.

sorry - just a distraction.  saw that immediately after the sequester and it's thrown me for a loop yet again.  more tears - but i'm sure my tee will be there to show cruz around the rainbow.

....there seems to be enuf of a framework of a story here that perhaps there needs to be a more elaborate discussion of this in a diary of its' own.

PETA folks can be over the top at times, but killing animals to protect animals reminds me of a certain war in SE Asia a few years ago....I really hope that an investigation would discover something more mundane, like jealousy or competition...

          •  when it hurts a bit less, i will be doing a diary (1+ / 0-)

on this.  sadly, this isn't the first time "animal rights" activists have done this at dog shows.  many of the so-called "animal protection laws" currently being pushed are so scurilous that they will shut down private owners who want to breed their beautiful purebreds to further the breed.  but that really IS another diary for another day.

          •  oh, as for jealousy, not very likely - the samoyed (1+ / 0-)

community is very tight knit.  most folks who show or own sammys are very interconnected - through fb or other sites or in person.  there aren't a huge number of sammies around and we tend to be a very active support group for each other.

besides, the personality of the sammy - that beautiful smile - is what brings out the best in sammy owners.  it is rare to find a negative sammy person - almost impossible, because if the human is negative, the sammy "fixes" the problem by either becoming a problem child that gets given away or that dog simply "leaves" (they take off looking for a better human to play with).

the sammy world is one of the most open and lovely gathering of dogs and humans i've ever experienced.  each person and pup who win a class are gloriously celebrated by the rest of the pack.
