  •  I know it's popular to bash NPR in certain qurters (3+ / 0-)

And sometimes for pretty good reason (don't get me started on Cookie Roberts or Mara Liaisson), at the exact same time, they remain by far the best place to get a real view of what's actually going on in this country with a sort of 360 way where you can actually hear what conservatives and centrists are actually saying and thinking as well a liberals and even the occasional actual leftist thinker.

Also, if memory serves, NPR (and maybe APR too) started a policy some time ago where they specifically stated that simply getting a Republican and a Democrat on the phone was no longer considered reporting and that they could actually draw conclusions, even if it made one side or the other look bad.

    •  KPFA has that distinction, not NPR (0+ / 0-)

      •  I haven't heard them in a very long while.... (0+ / 0-)

But most the Pacifica programming (with a few great exceptions) I've heard over the last 20 years down here via KPFK sort of assumes that the left view is correct and works from there in a not particularly enlighteining matter. I don't live to have my beliefs, even the correct ones, constantly reconfirmed. Some of it is much worse than that, simply Fox News turned upside down. For a while some years back KPFK was putting Maoists on in drive time, so I have a pretty jaundiced view of Pacifica. Really, the only political show I have time for from them is anything produced by Ian Masters. I know everyone here loves Amy Goodman, but I take the Marc Cooper view of her.
